    Armored vehicles in Austria

    Armored vehicle hire in Austria

Vienna's diplomacy and conferences in the east, Salzburg and the Alpine resorts in the west, and borders with Germany, Switzerland and Italy.

    • From one full day with driver
    • Self-drive from two days
    • Rates on request

Armored vehicle hire in Austria with Nero Line is available on request: certified armored saloons and SUVs at protection levels from VR4 to VR10, with a trained security driver or for your own licensed driver. Vienna hosts United Nations offices and other international organisations, which brings diplomatic and conference traffic all year. In the west, Salzburg and the Alpine resorts such as Kitzbühel are reached easily from Munich, and a programme can combine Austria with Germany or Switzerland. Rates are on request.

    Vienna

Vienna hosts United Nations offices at the Vienna International Centre and the seats of several other international organisations, as well as a large diplomatic community and a busy conference calendar. Our Vienna page covers the city's airport, districts and practical notes in detail.

Bratislava is close across the Slovak border, and one programme can cover meetings in both capitals.

Vienna's ball season in winter and its summer cultural programme add their own peaks to the conference calendar. A stay can combine a few days of meetings with an evening at the Hofburg or the Opera, where arrival and departure are planned with particular care.

    Salzburg and the Alps

Salzburg draws visitors for its summer festival season and as a base for the lakes of the Salzkammergut. Kitzbühel, and the resorts of Tyrol and the Arlberg, are among the best-known winter destinations in the Alps.

For western Austria, Munich or Zurich is closer than Vienna. The vehicle can meet you there and drive you across the border, staying with you for the whole stay.

    Vignettes, licences and languages

Austrian motorways require a vignette, and some Alpine tunnels and passes charge separate tolls. Both are handled as part of the booking. Winter driving on mountain roads requires experience with heavy vehicles and equipment for snow.

For an Austrian self-drive programme, check the licence first, because most high-protection vehicles weigh more than 3,500 kg maximum authorised mass and need category C1. German-speaking and English-speaking drivers can be requested for Austrian programmes, and further languages on request, subject to availability.

Salzburg Airport also serves the lakes and the ski resorts of the region, and arrivals there can be met in the same way as in Vienna or Munich.

    Questions

    Frequently asked questions

    Protection levels

    Protection levels in plain words

Civilian armored vehicles are commonly rated on the VR scale. The higher the number, the heavier the threat the body and glazing are tested against, and the heavier the vehicle becomes.

    VR4

    Handguns, up to .44 Magnum.

Discreet protection for city travel. The lightest class, closest to a standard car in weight and handling.

    VR6 to VR7

Rifles. VR7 corresponds roughly to the former B6 rating.

Suited to executive and diplomatic travel where rifles are part of the risk assessment.

    VR9

Military rifles. Corresponds roughly to the former B7 rating.

High protection for elevated risk profiles. Heavy, with a licence requirement to match.

    VR10

The highest level certified for a civilian vehicle.

Available on request, subject to availability and longer lead times.

Not sure which level fits your trip? Choose "advise me" in the request form and we will recommend one.

    How it works

    How a request works

    1. 01

      Tell us the trip

Dates, cities or route, number of passengers and the protection level you have in mind. A rough plan is enough to start.

    2. 02

      Receive a written offer

We confirm the vehicle class, protection level, driver arrangement and positioning, and send a written offer. Rates are on request and stated in the offer.

    3. 03

      Confirm and verify

On confirmation we complete identity checks, and for self-drive the licence check and the security deposit. A confidentiality agreement can be signed first.

    4. 04

      Handover where you are

The vehicle is positioned to your airport, hotel, residence or venue at the agreed time, with the driver briefed on your programme.
