    Armored vehicles in Italy

    Armored car hire in Italy

Milan for business and fashion, Rome for government and the Holy See, Lake Como and the north for private stays close to Switzerland.

    • From one full day with driver
    • Self-drive from two days
    • Rates on request

Armored car hire in Italy with Nero Line is available on request: certified armored saloons and SUVs at protection levels from VR4 to VR10, with a trained security driver or for your own licensed driver. The two main destinations are Milan, Italy's business and fashion capital, and Rome, seat of the Italian government and home to the Vatican. Northern Italy is closely linked to Switzerland, so a programme can start in Lugano or St. Moritz and cross the border. Historic centres have limited traffic zones, which are planned with each booking. Rates are on request.

    Milan and Rome

Milan is where business and fashion meet: banks and corporate head offices in Porta Nuova and CityLife, fashion houses around Via Montenapoleone, and fashion weeks and design fairs that fill the city several times a year.

Rome is the political and religious capital. Embassies are accredited to Italy and, separately, to the Holy See, and official visits and religious events bring their own security arrangements and closures.

    The lakes and the north

Lake Como, Lake Maggiore and Lake Garda hold villas and hotels that attract international visitors from spring to autumn. Lake Como in particular is close to Milan and to the Swiss border at Lugano.

Italian programmes can be cross-border: Lugano to Lake Como, St. Moritz over the Maloja Pass to Chiavenna, or Monaco along the coast into Liguria. The vehicle stays with you throughout.

Florence, Venice and the Amalfi Coast can be added to a programme that starts in Milan or Rome, and the vehicle can travel with you between them.

Limited traffic zones, licences and languages

Many Italian cities have limited traffic zones in their historic centres, controlled by cameras. Milan has its Area C congestion zone and Rome its ZTL. Access is planned as part of the booking.

For self-drive in Italy, most high-protection vehicles exceed 3,500 kg maximum authorised mass, the ceiling of category B, so your driver needs category C1. Drivers who speak Italian and English can be requested, and other languages on request, subject to availability.

    Frequently asked questions

    Protection levels

    Protection levels in plain words

Civilian armored vehicles are commonly rated on the VR scale. The higher the number, the heavier the threat the body and glazing are tested against, and the heavier the vehicle becomes.

    VR4

    Handguns, up to .44 Magnum.

Discreet protection for city travel. The lightest class, closest to a standard car in weight and handling.

    VR6 to VR7

Rifles. VR7 corresponds roughly to the former B6 rating.

Suited to executive and diplomatic travel where rifles are part of the risk assessment.

    VR9

Military rifles. Corresponds roughly to the former B7 rating.

High protection for elevated risk profiles. Heavy, with a licence requirement to match.

    VR10

The highest level certified for a civilian vehicle.

Available on request, subject to availability and longer lead times.

Not sure which level fits your trip? Choose "advise me" in the request form and we will recommend one.

    How it works

    How a request works

    1. 01

      Tell us the trip

Dates, cities or route, number of passengers and the protection level you have in mind. A rough plan is enough to start.

    2. 02

      Receive a written offer

We confirm the vehicle class, protection level, driver arrangement and positioning, and send a written offer. Rates are on request and stated in the offer.

    3. 03

      Confirm and verify

On confirmation we complete identity checks, and for self-drive the licence check and the security deposit. A confidentiality agreement can be signed first.

    4. 04

      Handover where you are

The vehicle is positioned to your airport, hotel, residence or venue at the agreed time, with the driver briefed on your programme.
