    Armored vehicles in Portugal

    Armored car hire in Portugal

Lisbon and its coast, Porto in the north and the Algarve in the south, with Spain across the border for combined programmes.

    • From one full day with driver
    • Self-drive from two days
    • Rates on request

Armored car hire in Portugal with Nero Line is available on request: certified armored saloons and SUVs at protection levels from VR4 to VR10, with a trained security driver or for your own licensed driver. The main destinations are Lisbon and the coast at Cascais and Estoril, where many international families now live, along with villa stays in Comporta and the Algarve. Portugal's only land border is with Spain, one of Nero Line's home markets, so combined Portugal and Spain programmes are straightforward to plan. Rates are on request.

    Lisbon and its coast

Lisbon and the coast to its west, from Estoril to Cascais, are home to a large international community and the natural starting point for an armored programme in Portugal. Sintra's estates in the hills and Comporta's villas to the south complete the picture.

Our Lisbon page covers the airport, the steep historic districts and the routes to the coast in detail.

The coast between Cascais and Sintra, and the rice fields and dunes of Comporta, have become home to many families who have moved to Portugal in recent years, so a booking can serve residents as well as short-term visitors. Visiting investors and their advisers can book too, for example around residency appointments.

    Porto and the Algarve

Porto, in the north, combines a busy business community with the vineyards of the Douro valley. The Algarve, in the south, is a long stretch of coast with golf resorts and villas, reached through Faro Airport.

Both are covered on request, and the vehicle can travel with you between them for a programme that crosses the country.

The Douro valley, upstream from Porto, is reached by winding roads through the vineyards, and an armored SUV is usually the better choice there.

Spain next door, licences and languages

Spain is Portugal's only neighbour by land and one of Nero Line's two home markets. Lisbon to Madrid, or the Algarve to Seville, are natural routes for a combined programme, and the vehicle stays with you across the border.

If your driver takes the vehicle into Portugal, the licence must match its weight, and most high-protection vehicles exceed 3,500 kg maximum authorised mass, which calls for category C1. Drivers who speak Portuguese, Spanish or English can be requested, subject to availability.

    Frequently asked questions

    Protection levels

    Protection levels in plain words

Civilian armored vehicles are commonly rated on the VR scale. The higher the number, the heavier the threat the body and glazing are tested against, and the heavier the vehicle becomes.

    VR4

    Handguns, up to .44 Magnum.

Discreet protection for city travel. The lightest class, closest to a standard car in weight and handling.

    VR6 to VR7

Rifles. VR7 corresponds roughly to the former B6 rating.

Suited to executive and diplomatic travel where rifles are part of the risk assessment.

    VR9

Military rifles. Corresponds roughly to the former B7 rating.

High protection for elevated risk profiles. Heavy, with a licence requirement to match.

    VR10

The highest level certified for a civilian vehicle.

Available on request, subject to availability and longer lead times.

Not sure which level fits your trip? Choose "advise me" in the request form and we will recommend one.

    How it works

    How a request works

    1. 01

      Tell us the trip

Dates, cities or route, number of passengers and the protection level you have in mind. A rough plan is enough to start.

    2. 02

      Receive a written offer

We confirm the vehicle class, protection level, driver arrangement and positioning, and send a written offer. Rates are on request and stated in the offer.

    3. 03

      Confirm and verify

On confirmation we complete identity checks, and for self-drive the licence check and the security deposit. A confidentiality agreement can be signed first.

    4. 04

      Handover where you are

The vehicle is positioned to your airport, hotel, residence or venue at the agreed time, with the driver briefed on your programme.
